Australian Ovarian Cancer Vaccine Trial
An ovarian cancer vaccine represents a novel approach to treatment of ovarian cancer in Australia. Only 10 to 15 sites world-wide will be able to participate in this study and Greenslopes Private Hospital is privileged to take part as one of only two hospitals in Australia. A total of 60 patients will be entered into the study world-wide.
Patients who are in full remission after first or second line chemotherapy for ovarian cancer are eligible. Patients need to have completed chemotherapy and after chemotherapy must not have any evidence of tumour as confirmed on clinical examination, CT scan and tumour marker tests. Patients need to be entered into the study at a maximum of 12 weeks after the completion of their chemotherapy. Patients will be randomly selected to receive the vaccine with half of patients receiving the vaccine. A total of 10 vaccine administrations will be given over almost a year’s time. Each vaccination will consist of some needle pricks into the skin on different parts of the body. Extensive clinical, laboratory and safety checks are built in as a matter of routine as long as patients are on study. The vaccine is tested for safety (how safe is it?) and efficacy (how well does it work?).
Patients do not need to have completed their previous treatment at Greenslopes Private Hospital. If you are interested pls email me.
